Become a Genre Guide
Help readers discover the books they didn’t know they were looking for.
What is a Genre Guide?
Genre Guides are the heart of Fiction Flock
A Genre Guide is a trusted curator for a specific genre. You help readers figure out what to read next by recommending books and highlighting stories they might otherwise miss.
This is not about follower counts or going viral. It is about knowing your genre deeply and helping readers find books they will actually love.
What You'll Do
Curate, create, and connect—on your own schedule.
Curate Books
Surface the best books in your genre. Create themed lists, highlight hidden gems, and help readers cut through the noise.
Create Events
Build quizzes, scavenger hunts, tours, and giveaways that get readers engaged and excited about books.
Spotlight Authors
Feature authors you love. Conduct interviews, write about their stories, and give them visibility they deserve.
Build Lists
Create recommendation lists that readers can trust. “Best slow-burn romances,” “Thrillers that keep you up all night”—you decide.
Lead Challenges
Run reading challenges and social campaigns that bring your community together around shared reading goals.
Shape the Hub
You’re not just a curator—you’re a co-builder. Help define what your genre hub looks like as we grow.
What You'll Earn
A small thank-you now, with room to grow.
$35/month
A small monthly stipend to thank you for your time and care
Earn Affiliate Income
You keep 100% of any affiliate commissions from books you recommend.
Recognition
Featured status as a Genre Guide—build your reputation as a trusted voice.
We're Just Getting Started
Can we be honest? We know this is not a life-changing offer. We are an independent, bootstrapped company just getting started. What we are building is a book-loving family where everyone benefits as we grow — and that includes what we are able to offer our Guides. Founding Guides will be first in line as we expand, and you will have helped shape what this becomes from the very beginning.
Who We're Looking For
There is no single profile. What matters is that you know your genre deeply, love recommending books, and care about helping readers find their next favorite.
- You read widely and consistently in a specific genre
- People often ask you what they should read next
- You have strong opinions about books and can explain why you love (or do not love) something
- You care more about matching the right reader to the right book than about promoting any one title
- You enjoy organizing, collecting, or curating recommendations
- You notice patterns, trends, and hidden gems in the genre you love
What Matters Most
Curate, create, and connect—on your own schedule.
Deep Love of Genre
You know your genre inside and out. The classics, the trends, the must-reads, and the hidden gems.
Curatorial Instincts
You can spot a great book—and explain clearly why the right reader will love it.
Reader-First Mindset
You care about connecting readers with the right books, the kind they’ll fall in love with, not just promoting any book.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much time does this take?
It's flexible. We're looking for consistent engagement, not a specific number of hours.
Think of it as a few hours a week doing what you already love—curating books and talking about them.
How many Guides are there per genre?
We're starting with 2 Guides per genre. This keeps the curation tight and gives each Guide real ownership of their space.
As we grow, we may add more by creating sub-genres, but our original and current guides will always have a say and first dibbs.
Do I need a big following?
No. We care more about your deep love of genre and ability to share that love with others. Don't get us wrong, if you've got a solid follower count, we love that for you. But if you know your genre and can articulate why a book is great, that's what matters the most to us.
Do I have to do all the tasks listed above every month?
No. Different Guides contribute in different ways. Some focus on lists, some on recommendations, some on events. We care more about consistency and care than about doing everything.
Plus, the founder will be working her tush off to add content and community events, so you're not alone. Together we're gonna build something amazing.
What does the application process look like?
Submit your application below. We'll review it, and if you seem like a good fit, we'll set up a conversation.
